The complaint was filed with CAO in April 2018 by 134 IEFCL employees who claim that their pay is not commensurate to the work they do and the life-threatening work-related hazards that they are exposed to. The complainants add that their pay is below industry standard. Further, they raise concerns regarding discrimination, specifically alleging that the foreign employees salaries are higher than that of the locals, although they perform the same tasks. The complainants also claim to have been brutalized by men of the Nigerian Police Force & the Nigerian military allegedly ordered by IEFCL to disperse workers in a peaceful protest for better pay on July 13, 2017.
