As environmental consciousness gains broad public appeal, investors are increasingly keen to support “green” projects. However, there are many instances of supposedly eco-friendly projects causing negative environmental and social impacts, despite operating under the pretense of being “green.” Complaints from communities to accountability mechanisms about environmental harm reveal examples of greenwashing and offer lessons for investors who sincerely want their investments to have positive social and environmental impacts.
